Dick Taylor has published a book regarding the history of the Moulin Rouge. Here is Dick's explanation.
"Life is short and uncertain" my Dad said to me when he lay dying of prostate cancer in 1974.
I had not given that idea much thought until I learned I too had prostate cancer (1993) . . . and my younger brother learned he had it too!
So now that I realize my biological clock is ticking off my allotted time on Earth I feel an urgency to record history as I saw it. To leave a record (where no other records exist) for others . . . of what was in the past . . . what is the foundation for the future.
My attachment to the Moulin Rouge Hotel is based on my experience as its "leasee-operator" almost 40 years ago.
For many years there were no stories in the local papers about the Moulin Rouge. It was almost as if it didn't exist! When life started to be pumped back into this historic hotel, I started to save the news reports. I kept the interesting articles that help give historians a better insight in this noble experimental "frontier-opening" hotel.
So dear readers, you will find in my words a very interesting story unfolding thru the medium of the newspaper stories I have collected and saved for you. I hope you will enjoy it!
