Los Latin Cowboys

Los Latin Cowboys

Since its debut in 1985, Splash has constantly reinvented itself. In this tradition, Huge Latoree of Los Latin Cowboys has a new partner, Eduardo Lome. As a result, Los Latin Cowboy's routine is undergoing dramatic transformation. The core elements of traditional Argentinean gaucho entertainment is the dance steps and moves extending from ballet to tango to "zapateo" - traditional folk dance.

"New blood. A new act. As gauchos, mainly we are dancers. In Argentina we learn the fundamentals of working with bolos and drums. However, the core of our training as gauchos is in the footwork. - Eduardo Lome

Wearing costumes fashioned in the tradition of Argentinean farmers' work clothes - white loose-fitting "camisa" shirts with pleated brown "bombachas/batarza" pants and leather-soled soft cowboy boots, they create a rhythmic beat, moving faster and faster from toe to heel, adding a quick twist, tango-like moves, and kicks to their metrical dance.

Much more than a mere show of the folkdance, swinging of bolos, and rhythmic drumming of bombos for which gauchos are known, the traditional nature of Latorre and Lome's act goes far beyond technical presentation. For over 30 years Latorre has been performing as a gaucho. With over a little over a decade of experience working as a professional entertainer, Lome is a relative newcomer to the art. As a result, there is a truly unique mentor-apprentice relationship between Latoree and Lome that plays itself out beautifully in their act. Latorre, a true master of the art, sometimes leads, at other times steps back to observe allowing his protege to show his stuff, and every so often challenges the younger Lome in a show of pure entertainment.
