MT. CHARLESTON RESORT HISTORY BOOK compiled by Richard B. Taylor

My site deals solely with that three miles of desert road which evolved to the Street of Light. However, Nevada is rich in history and unfortunately, like the Strip, history is sparse and should be treasured when found. Our beloved Dick Taylor has helped me with his personal knowledge and history on the Strip but his expertise in other areas in Nevada should not be overlooked.

Mt. Charleston (the Spring Mountains) have been of interest with every wave of people since the Indians, early miners, missionaries, rail-road builders, Boulder Dam workers, and last, but not least, the resort developers and their enormous staffs. Each group "did their thing" and the ripple affect has had a major impact on the Spring Mountains.

Dick Taylor has spent hundreds of hours collecting the interesting events that have taken place in Mr. Charleston's past. He has spent hundreds of dollars collecting, sorting, and publishing his compilations of Mt. Charleston's past history.

Remember, this book is from Dick Taylor. Dick was the Hacienda's on site Resident Manager who acted under the direction of the General Manager. His obligation was to handle all events/problems that developed during the night. In early 1957, Dick was appointed General Manager and was on the Hacienda Board of Directors. Dick was also appointed Managing Director of the New Frontier from 1958 to 1962. Dick has gone on to author some historical Las Vegas books as he is truly one of the last living "originals" on the Strip and therefore knows that history has to be documented for further generations.
