O'Sheas

Artist's Rendition

In this artist's rendition the name of the casino was called O'Grady's.

In 1988, Flamingo closed down a portion of their parking lot next to the Imperial Palace and built a casino, O'Sheas which opened on July 1, 1989. Flamingo did not have to obtain a gaming license since the building was connected to the Flamingo property. The casino contains more than 500 electronic games, craps, roulette, the Big Six Wheel, Let it Ride, Caribbean Stud poker and blackjack.

It appears that even though some postcards state O'Sheas Hotel and Casino, there was never a hotel in this casino.

Upstairs is the O'Sheas Magic & Movie Hall of Fame, an exhibit of show business, ventriloquism and magic memorabilia.

Restaurants include Burger King, Subway, Orient Express, Jay's Pizza, Baskin Robbins and a few specialty shops including Ethel M. Chocolates.

In 1995, O'Shea's showcased That's Magic.

In 1996, O'Shea's showcased Mini Magic Show

On February 26, 2000, Flamingo Las Vegas and Guinness Bass Import Company lead patrons in the world's largest simultaneous toast at O'Sheas. Even though this is the eighth "Raise a Pint!" sponsored by Guinness, this was the first time O'Sheas took part.

Guinness Beer was working in cooperation with the Guinness Book of Records to break last year's record of more than 197,000 participants in three time zones. This year, more than 64 cities participated in the contest. Flamingo's Assistant Director of Food & Beverage, Patrick McKenna, born in the Emerald Isle in Dublin, dined his official pint hat and his Donnegal tweeds to serve as the official toastmaster for the evening.

Beer lovers were encouraged to buy into the toast at just $1.75, and then raise their pints as high as they could at 8:30pm to break the record with McKenna stating the following quote.

"In bars and pubs from coast to coast
The time has come for the Great Guinness Toast
Let's raise our pints and toast each other
We'll break the record, and then have another! Cheers!"

At 8:55pm McKenna called in the court from the bar where happy beer drinkers were lined up four-deep, and learned at approximately 11:00pm, that the record was broken and would be entered into the 2001 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records with a total count of a staggering 320,470 participants.

The dark, nut-flavored ale was pumped out by the gallons where signs proclaimed "Prelude to the Perfect Pint," and one bartender wore a leprechaun's tall, mushroom-shaped hat. Among those taking part were, surprisingly enough, two genuine Irishmen, John Miawhinney and Darrick Pettigrew, who just happened to be in the Las Vegas on vacation when they saw the signs advertising the event.

"Why I lived right around the corner from him (McKenna)." - John Miawhinney

"My friend saw the advertisements on your sandwich board, so he dragged me along. It didn't take much dragging!" - Darrick Pettigrew

In May, 2000, O'Sheas added Justin Tranz to her accomplishments. Tranz' performs R-rated "Hip-Nosis".

Tranz has made hypnosis "hip" on The Strip. He has taken a stage hypnosis show and soared it into another dimension maybe as close to The Twilight Zone as some will ever experience.

On February 23, 2001, records were broken again when the Flamingo's resident Irishman, Food & Beverage Director Patrick McKenna, led a packed O'Sheas casino in the Guinness USA's world's largest simultaneous toast. McKenna and 205 partygoers at O'Sheas brought the nationwide total to 432,000, more than 100,000 from last year, and helped set a new world record.

In 2002, O'Shea's showcased "Hip-Nosis" starring Justin Tranz.

In 2003, O'Shea's is showcasing "Hip-Nosis" starring Justin Tranz.
